Change of Command for the 83rd
On 10 April 2018 the 83rd Composite Squadron hosted a Change of Command Ceremony for both the Cadets and the squadron as a whole.
Major M. Scott James
Major Scott James relinquished his position as Squadron Commander after four years of service in order to assume the position of Director of Emergency Services for Arkansas Wing. During his time as Commander the squadron grew significantly, especially in cadet membership. Region Headquarters recognized the squadron as the Southwest Region Squadron of Distinction for 2017. Eight squadrons are awarded this honor across the nation. National Headquarters will choose one of the eight squadrons as the National Squadron of Distinction.
Major Blain Stewart
Major Blain Stewart joined the 83rd Composite Squadron almost three years ago from New Mexico, and has been a CAP member just shy of eight years. He served as the Safety Officer for the 83rd before stepping in to a command position. Cadets enjoy interacting with Major Stewart as he performs their Orientation Flights. He is familiar with all aspects of air operations because he holds ratings as a Mission Pilot, Scanner, and Observer. Major Stewart is a great asset to our squadron and we are lucky to have him in command.
C/2dLt Zachary Wouters
Cadet 2dLt Zachary Wouters has been a member of the 83rd Composite Squadron for two and a half years. He has served as Cadet Safety Officer, and is currently serving as Cadet Communications Officer. Wouters has attended three encampments and served on staff at two of them. This is his senior year at Greenwood High School and he will be graduating in May. After graduation, he will be shipping off to begin his Marine Corps basic training later this summer. Semper Fi!
C/2dLt Evan Wittig
Cadet 2dLt Evan Wittig has been a member of the 83rd Composite Squadron for four and a half years. He has served as 1st Sgt, and stepped up to fill in wherever needed. Wittig has attended three encampments and served on staff at two of them, and he also served on the Arkansas Wing Cadet Advisory Council. Due to his experience at the squadron and wing level, he will make an excellent Cadet Commander.
We want to thank both Major James and C/2dLt Wouters for their time and dedication to the 83rd, and welcome Major Stewart and C/2dLt Evan Wittig to their new positions as Squadron and Cadet Commanders. We are excited to see where their leadership takes our squadron!
