Graduating Seniors Preparing for Life After High School
The 83rd’s three seniors are graduating and preparing to fly from the nest over the next few months. They will be moving on to bigger and better things in order to prepare for their futures.
Cadet Captain Joseph Wittig
C/Capt Wittig will be graduating from Greenwood High School on May 18th. He joined Civil Air Patrol in August of 2011 and worked hard to earn up to the Earhart Award, through which he attained the rank of Cadet Captain. Wittig attended two Arkansas Wing Encampments (2012 and 2013). Then he went to the Lonestar Emergency Services Academy (LESA) in 2014. Due to his participation in LESA he attained multiple ES Qualifications. During July of 2015 he was a flight line marshaller through Blue Beret at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, WI. Wittig has served the 83rd in the positions of Cadet Advisory Council Representative, Cadet 1st Sgt, Cadet Flight Commander, and Cadet Commander.
He will leave early this summer to begin his studies at the Air Force Academy, where he plans to major in either Meteorology or Political Science.
Cadet Second Lieutenant Zachary Wouters
C/2d Lt Zachary Wouters will be graduating from Greenwood High School on May 18th. He joined Civil Air Patrol in October of 2015. He set a goal from day one that he wanted to achieve his Billy Mitchell award to earn the rank of C/2dLt and he achieved his goal the summer of 2017. During his time in Civil Air Patrol he attended an Arkansas Wing Summer Encampment and Kansas Wing Winter Encampment. He is signed up to attend the Arkansas/Oklahoma Summer Encampment this coming June and will be attending as a senior member. Last summer had was chosen to attend the Powered Flight Academy in Shawnee, Oklahoma and work towards his pilot’s license. He has served the 83rd in the positions of Cadet Advisory Council Representative, Cadet Safety Officer, Cadet Communications Officer, Cadet 1st Sgt, Cadet Deputy Commander, and Cadet Commander.
Wouters has signed with the United States Marines and will report to Marine Corp Basic Training on July 30th. Once he completes his training he will serve as a Field Communications Operator.
Cadet Staff Sergeant Liam Connally
C/SSgt Liam Connally will be graduating from Hackett High School on May 14th. He joined Civil Air Patrol in May of 2017. He earned his Wright Brothers Award and the rank of C/SSgt in January. Connally was involved in a group of cadets training for Cadet Competition, but the 83rd was unable to compete due to circumstances beyond their control. He is always willing and able to help the other cadets in the squadron, and is one of the first to volunteer. Connally currently serves as the Cadet Recruiting NCO.
Connally will be attending Embry Riddle University this fall and is majoring in Cyber Security and Intelligence.
